General Info
They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but we do. With the millions of books in brick and mortar stores, and on electronic shelves, we make snap decisions every time we gaze upon a book’s cover. If you want prospective buyers to purchase your book, then you need to entice them with an intriguing cover.
Essentially, your cover needs to look enticing both as a thumbnail, and at full size. Most electronic books are first seen as tiny images, adrift on a sea of potential purchases. Careful attention to tonal values will result in a cover that looks as good in black and white as in full colour.
Some of your buyers may be buying their books on E-ink devices, which only display 256 (or less) shades of grey. Your cover needs to have adequate contrast to display as both colour, black and white, and as a small thumbnail.
I can produce e-Book covers as well as print covers, complete with spine and back cover. Photographic artwork is only included in the price if agreed to upon consultation. At an additional cost, over and above my design fee, I can acquire the rights to any media on your behalf.
If you would like to make use of a custom font that you have purchased, you need to provide me with the exact file. In general, I make use of free fonts available online.
My Fees
I don’t have a one price fits all, and I don’t utilise templates in my design process. I prefer to consult with my clients first. My work is both a business and an art. Each cover is handcrafted around your needs, and my design. The prices below are a rough guideline of my fees.
e-Book Cover
This basic design package is for an e-Book, or “front only” cover. It is created from the principles outlined on this page and according to your requirements. I will take a complete brief from you and discuss various options for your book via email. I will also advise you on the best course of action for your type of book, or genre.
This Service Includes:
- One mock-up. Please see the option to add addition mock-ups to your package;
- Four cover revisions or tweaks;
- Various sizes for your convenience;
- Proper size and aspect ratio required by not only online stores, but also e-readers.

Add-on – Print Cover
Full print covers can be elaborate if the design flows from front, over the spine, and onto the back. For this reason, it is advisable to ensure your book is ready for print, in order to ascertain the spine thickness and avoid additional alteration fees. Complex changes at a later stage may incur additional charges due changes to the spine.
This Add-on Includes:
- Four cover revisions or tweaks;
- High resolution cover PDF ready for printing, a reduced for web jpeg version, and a handy thumbnail;
- Full cover layout includes the front (usually the e-Book cover), a spine (calculated from your final book size), and back page;
- ISBN will be included on the back cover if provided by the client;
- Proper size and aspect ratio required for Print-On-Demand print services.
Add-on – Mock-up
To keep the costs down, the basic “e-Book Cover” fee includes only one mock-up. If you are unsure of which route to take, you can request additional mock-ups for comparison, assisting you to reach a decision.

Add-on – Stock Image
To keep the costs down, the basic “e-Book Cover” fee doesn’t include stock images. If you require additional stock images for the cover, you are encouraged to purchase your own in order to retain the rights to use the artwork. I can purchase the images on your behalf if you prefer, and bill additionally for each one.
The mock-up of your cover will be created using a watermarked image from the stock site before purchase.
This Add-on Includes:
- One stock image charged additionally unless otherwise arranged through prior consultation. Custom artwork not included and will be procured, and charged at the artist’s rate.
- Stock images chosen from www.storyblocks.com are charged at $15 per image.
Final File Formats
All final Book Cover Designs are supplied in a jpeg format. Here is a breakdown of all the different versions of the book cover, and how you can use each one. Check for the appended section of each jpeg file name and consult the key below.
Terms & Conditions
- All custom art, photography, or fonts must be supplied by the client at the outset of the work;
- The print book size and spine thickness for the final book must be established before I commence work on the Printed Covers. Changes will cause numerous alterations, undo my work, and therefore incur additional charges;
- Complex designs must be discussed and agreed upon before any design work will start;
- The basic “e-Book Cover” fee does not include stock images or custom illustrations such as cartoons or art;
- After consultation, cover design work will only commence after a payment of at least 50% of the total fee has been made. The final, full resolution artwork will only be released to the client upon approval of the watermarked drafts and full payment. This will indicate that the client has signed off on the project and is happy with the final product.

General Info
Predesigned covers provide affordability, but with less flexibility. It is also easier to visualise a finished product. If any of these predesigned covers appeals to you, please copy the name of the cover, and send me a message. After I receive your payment, the cover will be removed from sale. Please note that this section is currently being updated to add more Predesigned Book Covers.
If you love the design of a particular cover, and wish to alter it further, please discuss it with me, and I will finalise a total fee for the design work. Some covers are of a fixed design and might not lend themselves to major alteration, but a new derivative can be created.
The prices listed on all predesigned artwork are for e-Book covers only. If you require a full print cover, please read the sections further down for more details, and visit the ‘Book Cover Design’ page for more information about ‘Add-on – Print Cover’ service.

My Fees
These predesigned covers vary in price according to complexity and design. The price is for an e-Book cover only. If a full print cover is required, the ‘Add-on – Print Cover’ from the ‘Book Cover Design’ page will apply as an additional charge to the cover price listed, or as discussed upon further consultation.

- Changes to a predesigned cover are limited to the content of the titles, subtitle, author name, and typeface colours (if applicable.) If the cover has a plain background, this can be substituted for another suitable image or colour. Any other changes will incur additional fees;
- All desired changes must be discussed before purchasing a predesigned cover. Some designs might not allow for too much alteration;
